The recruitment process for a probationary officer (PO) at the State Bank of India is a comprehensive 3-stage evaluation designed to test a candidate's aptitude, analytical ability and communication skills. The three Phases of selection are:

Phase 1: Preliminary Examination

  • Acts as a first screening round.

Exam Pattern

Prelims Exam Pattern

SBI PO Preliminary Exam serves as the first screening stage and is conducted online. It consists of three timed sections, and each section has its own duration- meaning you cannot switch between sections while attempting the exam. The structure of prelims examination is as follow:

Mains Exam Pattern

SBI PO Main Exam is the most crucial stage of the recruitment process that evaluates candidate's core concept. This phase consists of  two parts- an Objective Test and a Descriptive Test- both conducted online on the same day. The structure of mains examination is as follow:


(i) Objective Test: The duration of objective test is 3 hours, and it consists of 4 Sections of total 200 marks. There will be separate timing for every section.

1. Psychometric Test:
